Maungaarangi Kindergarten and Whānau Centre
Our Vision - Awakening Waiura - Growing Leaders
Welcome to Maungaarangi where whanaungatanga/relationships are at the heart of everything. It is a privilege to learn alongside tamariki and whānau at Maungaarangi - Mountains in the Sky.
Maungaarangi has a welcoming wairua that draws you in to feel safe and connected, where you grow your sense of belonging and ownership. Kaiako, whānau and tamariki collaborate to share knowledge, aspirations and create pathways for learning and rangitirtanga/leadership such as tuakana/teina.
Maungaarangi embraces a bi-cultural curriculum incorporating Māori ways of being and doing through whakatau, karakia, pūrākau and te reo me ona tikanga Māori to honour tangata whenua and tangata tiriti.
At Maungaarangi tamariki are kaitiaki of the whenua. Te Pā Huarākau our food forest affords learning of planting, growing, harvesting and preparing our kai. Tamariki are immersed in sustaining the natural world and having real life experiences which involve risk taking, imagination and caring for all things living.
At Maungaarangi you will experience an inclusive learning environment that recognises the uniqueness of each individual and reflects different ways of being, doing and saying. Tamariki are empowered to explore freely and access resources with minimal interruptions. Kaiako work alongside tamariki to support social and emotional learning such as waiting for a turn, empathy and kindness. We want tamariki to feel their emotions and kaiako recognise we are role models for supporting tamariki to work through challenges with a growth mindset. We prioritise supporting oral language learning to grow social and emotional intelligence.
At Maungaarangi tamariki play and have the freedom to be children with agency to direct their own learning, at their own pace in a calm and responsive learning environment.
Poipoia te kākano, kia puāwai - Nurture the seed and it will blossom. This whakatauki speaks to us at Maungaarangi as we nurture and care for tamariki, whānau and each other so that we all can blossom to be the best that we can be.
