Maungatapu Kindergarten services a broad community from as far afield as Welcome Bay, Oropi and Ohauiti.

Our Philosophy

At Maungatapu kindergarten, we strive to build strong partnerships with families to grow children’s learner identity, collaboratively, through their passions. We believe these positive, rich relationships between adults and children built through Manaakitanga (kindness, respect and empathy) have a powerful influence on children’s lives.

Children and Whanau are respected and valued as individuals alongside their heritage. Through Ngā hononga (relationships), we nurture the child’s heritage and value the prior knowledge they bring with them. We respect the bicultural diversity in Aotearoa that values self, others and the environment. We are guided by te tiriti o Waitangi.

We foster an environment of kindness, empathy and respect, all of which develops and strengthens a good character. We nurture children’s self esteem and mana which empowers them to become risk takers, thinkers, to persevere and build self confidence and self esteem. We believe that children learn best through meaningful play experiences that are driven through their interests.
